Acupuncture

At Body Works Sports Physiotherapy, our trained physiotherapists are pleased to offer Acupuncture to help treat your injuries and help you recover faster.  Acupuncture is used in conjunction with other treatment techniques, such as Manual TherapyMovement Retraining and Exercise, to help you achieve the best results.

AcupunctureAcupuncture is one of the oldest recorded forms of medicine having been used in China for over 2,000 years. In Traditional Chinese Medicine it is believed that energy flows freely throughout the body, via pathways called meridians. When there is a problem the energy stagnates. Stimulation by acupuncture, at various points, called acupoints, along the meridians, helps to restore the healthy flow of energy in the body.

Acupuncture involves the use of very fine needles at specific points throughout the body in order to stimulate pain relief, tissue healing and improved movement and overall well-being.

There are several different approaches including “Anatomical Acupuncture” which combines western and traditional eastern medicine.  Anatomical Acupuncture stimulates the nervous system to release chemicals (such as endorphins) into the body to promote and stimulate the body’s natural healing process. Acupuncture is quite safe and has few side effects.

Acupuncture can often help to relax tense nervous systems due to injury, stress or chronic conditions and pain.

Common conditions that can be treated with acupuncture include neurological and muscular disorders such as:

  • Headaches
  • Neck and back pain
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Tennis elbow
  • Sciatica
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Knee pain
  • Tendinitis injuries
  • Muscular strains
  • Ligamentous sprains
