Hamilton Heights was founded in 1911 by the Heywood-Lonsdale family. Family representative, James Pemberton Fell negotiated with the City of North Vancouver to install the streetcar lines, to mark the boundaries of the area and eventually the donation of Heywood Park to the City. Once the deal was complete, Hamilton Avenue was named after Henry Heywood-Lonsdale’s wife Mabel. Today Hamilton Heights is a tight knit community of homeowners at the top of the hill north of Hamilton. This area is close to Edgemont Village, easy access to Marine Drive, transit and downtown Vancouver via Lions Gate Bridge. Heywood Park is a 16 hectare park with three distinct areas; the lower developed park and playground fronting Marine Drive at the south end, the upper forested areas of the Mackay Creek ravine and the Hamilton all weather sports fields at the northeast corner of the park. The children’s play area is touted as an adventure play park complete with a zip line, a stilt walk and king of the castle hill and play structures for toddlers and young children that incorporate both nature and whimsy. The park includes hiking trails and a salmon bearing stream.
