The neighbourhood of Queensbury is a small community and was one of the first areas to be developed in North Vancouver. It is centrally located south of Keith Road, below Grand Boulevard and east of the trendy Lower Lonsdale area. In the 1940’s, the Lynn Valley streetcar ran east on 4th Street as far as Queensbury where it turned north and headed towards Grand Boulevard. During WWll the Burrard Dry Dock manufactured naval ships and one third of all the cargo ships produced in Canada. At its peak the shipyard employed 14,000 people. Queensbury saw a wartime housing boom to accommodate all the workers and their families. Today the trolley tracks are gone but some of the wartime houses and shipyard buildings are still there. Residents enjoy the close proximity to Lower Lonsdale’s restaurants, indie shops, specialty food shops, galleries and antique stores, the Grand Boulevard Park and the easy commute across the Second Narrows Bridge.
