Hi this is Dana Ranahan from Body Works Sports Physiotherapy in North Vancouver and today I’m here to talk about jaw pain. So do you have jaw pain? Do you have tightness in your jaw or do you clench at night? Some people also tend to get clicking in their jaw when they’re opening their mouth, or eating.

One of the basic things we look at, is the position of the jaw is in space. This makes a huge difference to how much tension we have in the jaw, and how much pain may develop.

One of the basic premises to good positioning for your jaw, is looking at neck posture and resting the tongue on the roof of your mouth. So sit nice and tall, close your mouth, and notice where your tongue sits. For people with jaw pain, often the tongue does not sit on the roof of the mouth. If yours doesn’t, work to try to integrate this into some of your postural corrections.

We’ll have more tips on jaw pain coming forward or if you have more questions please feel free to give the clinic a call at 604-983-6616. Have a great day.
